Winc: A Chic Wine Club

A few weeks ago, I was buying my wine at the store like most people. I was familiar with a few styles of wine that I liked and I would venture outside of my comfort zone based off of recommendations from friends and family. Fast forward to today and I’ve become a member of one of the most stylish wines clubs in America: Winc.

Winc is a wine club that curates handcrafted wine based on your individual palate. When you register for the subscription, you’re prompted to take a wine palate quiz that will offer you personalized wine recommendations. You can cancel your membership at anytime and skip a month if you’re going to be out of town. And best of all, you never have to pay for a bottle of wine that you don’t like. I signed up immediately.

Having recently moved to Houston, having items delivered directly to my door was new to me. I lived in an apartment in New York for the past 6 years and would always receive a package slip from a shipper. I had just started to have my groceries delivered on the weekends here in Houston and I jumped at the chance to have my wine delivered as well.

Based out of California, Winc curated wine from all over the world and bottles various styles to compliment a wide range of taste and adventure. After completing the profile quiz, I was paired with four bottles of wine to start my membership and having opened two, I must say I was impressed.

I usually prefer my wines sweet, fruity and bubbly, and I was worried that the picks from Winc wouldn’t meet my taste buds high standards. However, in the spirit of trying new things, I decided to let Winc do all the leg work and send me their best recommendations. To say that they hit the ball out of the park would be an understatement.

The wine picks weren’t anything I would have purchased for myself in a million years but I thoroughly enjoyed the pairings by Winc. Being able to let someone do your wine shopping for you without leaving the comfort of your own home is pretty dope but having Winc give me wine recommendations monthly was too awesome to pass up.

If you’re a wine connoisseur like myself and enjoy a tall glass of wine with friends, for dinner or as part of weekly self-care, I would definitely recommend Winc. We’ve become a society of convenience and Winc offers a chic wine subscription that’s second to none.

Check out photos of the wine I received in my first box below as well as my unboxing of Winc and click here to receive four bottles of wine for $39 + complimentary shipping.

Girls Trip September 2019: Houston, Texas

I’m always down for a vacation, especially a girls trip. With everyone adulting and having their own lifestyles to maintain, trips like this are few and far between. But when we all get together it’s pure magic.

I love Houston. And before I moved here in November (blog post coming soon) I would visit at least once a year. Between the weather and food, it’s always a great time, so when I found a round trip ticket for less than $150, I jumped on the chance to buy.

A September girls trip was well on the way and it would be one for the books.

My friends and I enjoyed great food, drinks and tons of walks down memory lane. As a frequent visitor of Houston, I was ecstatic to enjoy a much needed vacation with some of my favorite people. Not to mention the opportunity to create stories and snap pictures that I’d look back on years to come.

This vacation was everything that I could have hoped for and with girls trips becoming less frequent, it makes them even more special. Traveling is such a necessity but when best friends are involved it makes the destinations all the more sweeter.

Check out pictures of my trip below and stay tuned for more girls trips!

Boss Babes Vol. I: Lauren Napier

With National Women’s Entrepreneurship Day just a short while ago, (literally a couple of weeks), I decided to start a new series on my blog about female entrepreneurs entitled Boss Babes.

This series is meant to encourage, inspire and showcase some of the phenomenal women is business and give you a sneak peek into their lives through candid conversations and engagement.

With out further ado I present Boss Babes Volume I with none other than Lauren Napier.

Lauren Napier is the founder and creator of Lauren Napier Beauty, a brand of sustainably packaged, individually wrapped cleansing wipes that are made of the highest quality botanical ingredients.

I sat down with Lauren to dig a little deeper into the woman behind such an amazing brand and got to discuss some of her beauty secrets, inspirations and future career plans.

1. Where did the concept of individual packaged makeup wipes come from? I was traveling and my puff package of wipes dried out. At that moment I developed a concept and took it straight to a manufacturer.

2. What sets your brand a part from other makeup wipe brands? The packaging designed is for travel and Lauren Napier Beauty’s ingredients are botanical rich and deep clean skin.

3. What’s or who is your biggest inspiration? I am my biggest inspiration. I have to be perfectly honest. There are days that I don’t want to get out of bed - but I do! This work is hard, very hard. I had a great idea, I put my idea into action.  I created a brand from my tax refund and today it is sold in over 22 countries. I am shocked day in and day out. I want to see where this goes. So I am inspired every day to keep going.

4. When you fly, what are must haves for your in-flight travel bag? I fly a lot. I am an expert packer, I have a double sided blanket (so I know what side touches my body and what touches the seat). I have a bottle of water, sanitizer, my headphones, phone charger and an apple. As far as beauty goes, I must have La Rose by Lauren Napier rose water infused makeup remover wipes, Beneath Your Mask face oil, a Luvscrub for my body and a satin pillow case.

5. If you could trade places with one person for a day who would it be? I would trade places with the person at the IRS who has access to Trump’s taxes.

6. Outside of Lauren Napier wipes, what other projects are you curating or working on? I am so excited for the products that are to come. I am very excited but everything is in development so I can’t say - but I know you’re all going to love what’s next.

7. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 7 things do you have with you?  Let’s say I were stranded in the most ideal conditions. More like Madonna in “Swept Away” not Tom Hanks in Cast Away” I would have my Cloth and Paper day planner, because I use to write down my ideas. All of the books on the list of books that I am supposed to be reading (I would finally have time). Hopefully, my hair would still be braided so I’d have Girl+Hair for my scalp. An unlimited supply of olive oil. Cleanse by Lauren Napier would absolutely be in tow. My hot water bottle and Double bubble bubble gum.

8. What’s your daily beauty routine? Depends on the day. The Lauren Napier Beauty philosophy is, “there is beauty in taking it off.” I am an ultra minimalist. I like it easy and effective. So I cleanse with Natura Bisse facial cleanser, moisturize with Sunday Riley or Mario Badescu (depending on the time of the month and weather). I use NARS sheer glow foundation in Macao, Anastasia Brow powder, a cream blush, Milk mascara, tinted color corrector or Wander Beauty on my lips. / At night, I am all about cleansing oils, then I use Flaunt by Lauren Napier to remove excess mascara from my lids. It’s gentle and nourishes my eye area. I moisturize my face and dab olive oil on my lips for hydration.

If you’re a frequent traveler like Lauren and myself, a gym rat or you’re in need of cleansing wipes that won’t dry out after one use, be sure to shop her site, www.laurennapier.com. Lauren Napier Beauty offers three variations of wipes to suit all skincare types and has several price points to meet all budgets.

2019 Black Friday Buys

The day after Thanksgiving will forever be marked as one of the best shopping days of the year. Companies and brands, big and small, offer some of the biggest deals of the year on a huge selection of products. What does this mean for consumers like you and I?

We get to shop in store or from the comfort of our homes on some of our favorite products without breaking the bank. With my recent move from NYC to Houston, I decided to go easy on the shopping and I only picked up a few things this year. Keep reading for my Black Friday buys.

The first thing I purchased I was a planner. I plan everything, from meals to my vacations and even a few errands. I haven’t had a planner in over a year and to be honest, I missed having a notebook for my daily, weekly and monthly goals. Insert The Happy Planner. As a new content creator/influencer, this planner came just in time. I can now plan out my months and break down any goals into small steps of various proportions. Not to mention I get to add stickers, highlighters and pretty handwriting. The Happy Planner will definitely keep me honest and accountable plus I couldn’t pass up on this massive deal. I got the mystery bag bundle for less the $50.

If I could kiss the creator behind Replica Surfaces I would. Mandy’s idea of rigid, stain-resistant, lightweight surfaces to up your photo game was genius. I finally mastered the flatlay, no easy fete, but I was still missing something in my photos. I happened upon Mandy’s business by pure luck and couldn’t wait for the Black Friday sale. She even DM’d me once the sale started to make sure I didn’t miss out on this amazing tool for building my brand. I’ll be a repeat customer for sure and with three surfaces, (white marble, subway tile and rose marble), I can’t wait to start creating.

I’ve been trying to minimize my carbon footprint. (Sustainable post coming soon) Since I tend to navigate towards makeup wipes, I wanted to try some makeup removing cloths instead that were reusable and machine washable. Face Halo had an amazing sale, (I got the BFF Pro Bundle for 30% off), and since I already have some products from Makeup Eraser for applying toner, I decided to buy a bundle from the Face Halo. I still own and use makeup wipes but, I’m making the transition little by little to limit my use.

As a beauty blogger, my vanity and closet are filled with the best of what the beauty world has to offer. Upon an inventory of my beauty items after I moved, I realized I was quite low on lotions, oils and body butters. Elle Vie Shea Body Butter to the rescue. I’ve purchased from this brand before, and I was IN LOVE! The consistency and quality was everything and to have a body oil to match the butters was kismet. I couldn’t have been happier, which I why I returned and added some products to my beauty stash. My favorite scents are Date Night and Social Butterly.

The holiday season is all about family and coming together, but Black Friday is about shopping until you drop, or your card gets declined. Lol.

I snagged some major deals and may still keep shopping if something catches my eye. With all of the needs out of the way, I can now focus on a couple of wants and feed my inner beauty product junkie.

What was on your list for Black Friday and how did you make out thus far?

Also, don’t forget about small business Saturday and Cyber Monday, which are great times to buy for yourself or others this holiday season.

Home By The Sea: Hampton University Homecoming 2019

I haven’t been to my Alma Mater in over 10 years. Between working and traveling to Pinterest inspired vacation destinations, I just didn’t have the time. To top it off, it seemed quite unnecessary to visit a community that now seemed foreign to me.
What could I possibly hope to gain from attending homecoming at Hampton University, my Home By the Sea?

Little did I know that an impromptu text message from my friend to attend homecoming this year would create such fond memories of my favorite girl’s trip to date.

It’s funny how you forget the importance of college after you’ve graduated. You’re in the big leagues now and your day to day no longer consists of classes, the student center, exams, frat parties and tons of free time.

You’re working a 9-5, you have a boss, you’re paying bills, there’s no spring or winter break and you can’t just not go to work because you were out partying the night before without calling in. This is adulting.

However, before I became a full blown adult, I was a Hamptonian. I met some of the most amazing people here and made best friends that are like sisters to me. I was a young adult that had to fend for myself and make smart choices because I was on scholarship.

I laughed, I cried, I partied and I slept while living and loving all that college had to offer.

Being able to attend homecoming spur of the moment with sisters who helped make four years away from family feel like home was more than I could have asked or hoped for. This trip was full of laughter, singing, dancing, fellowship and tons of memories.

The pictures you see in this post don’t even compare to the good times had while on this mini vacation. I was so happy to have been able to attend homecoming this year and though spontaneity isn’t really my thing, I’m embracing going with the flow in this thing called life and just living in the moment.

Did you attend your Alma Maters homecoming this year? And if so share your thoughts below.

What’s On My Vanity

As a beauty and lifestyle blogger, my vanity is filled with some of the most sought after and curated beauty items.

I’ve been reaching for a few products lately, (pictured above) and they’ve become staples in my beauty routine.

Cleanse by Lauren Napier is a pretty dope concept of individual packaged makeup remover wipes. Though I’ve been limiting my carbon footprint by switching from cotton rounds to reusable makeup removal pads, these wipes always find their way back in my stash. I’m a frequent flyer and love to pack travel size skincare and these fit the bill. Not to mention they have stellar ingredients and remove make up like a dream.

Marc Jacobs has slowly worked their way into my heart and makeup routine. This gloss is a universally flattering color and is great to wear alone for on top of another color to kick it up a notch. A little goes a long way and the pigment is stunning.

I’ve become a lover of all things that mist and they’re now a must have in my skincare arsenal. Murad’s Prebiotic 3-in-1 Multi Mist is a new staple in my fall skincare regimen. The mist application is perfection and aside from keeping my skin supple in between skincare steps, it helps refresh my makeup through the day. The only thing missing is a travel size. I’m obsessed!
What vanity staples are you currently gushing over?

Getting Out Of A Workout Slump

I’ve started to hate working out. And it’s not because I don’t like to exercise. I’ve begun to dislike fitness because it’s become boring and mundane.
I used to be a member of Equinox and while I loved the gym and amenities, the class schedule just didn’t work with my job. So I’ve found myself struggling to find something that would re-inspire me on my fitness journey.
It wasn’t until I stopped and thought about what i used to do before the gym, that a light bulb went off. My fitness slump was over and I realized a jump rope and my yoga mat were all that I needed.
We all go through phases of stagnancy and it’s ok to have a little slump now and then. It’s completely normal. But don’t get stuck in a rut. Find different ways to get inspired. Visit Pinterest, do a Google search, type some hashtags into Instagram to get back into the groove.
There are so many resources we can use to motivate and re-ignite that fire within us. Take it one day at a time and if need be, find an accountability partner. You can be your biggest fan or your own worst enemy.
What do you choose?

In My Opinion: AprilSkin Real Calendula Peeling Pad

Do you switch out your skincare products with the seasons? I do. Fall weather leaves my combination skin more normal/dry (except in my T-zone) and I tend to reach for more hydrating formulas.
That’s why I couldn’t be happier to have received the Real Calendula Peeling Pad from AprilSkin for review.
This pad boasts key ingredients of over 75% calendula water as well as salicylic acid, sodium hyaluronate, centella asiatica extract and licorice root, making this the perfect product for fall when my skin needs hydration.
Calendula, (the key ingredient), also called marigold, is known for it’s anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, hydrating and soothing benefits. Those who have sensitive skin as well as men who need soothing for their skin post-shave would definitely be able to add this product to their stash.
The texture of this pad reminds me a lot of the acne peel pads from Peter Thomas Roth. They’re dual-sided with one side being embossed for light exfoliation, while the other side it smooth.
AprilSkin, like a lot of k-beauty products, takes a more moisturizing and soothing method when it comes to their ingredients. And after using this pad for a few weeks, my skin is in love.
At $24 for 60 pads, I’d say AprilSkin Real Calendula Peeling Pads were a steal. The product comes soaked in the treatment and leaves my skin feeling soft, hydrated and ready for the next steps of my skincare routine.

Let me know if you’ve tried this product or one similar and what are your thoughts on chemical exfoliation pads? Also, if there’s a product you’d like me to review, leave a comment below.
