My Houston Fitness Journey

I started working out while in college as to not become a statistic of the freshman 15. Though I’ve always had a pretty nice shape, compliments of a fast metabolism and high school extra-curricular activities, I wanted more. I practiced yoga while away at school and it became my first fitness love. Fast forward to present day and my recent move across the country, I decided to keep my first love of yoga but also branch out and try alternative methods of exercise. Introducing Inner Me Studios.

One of my best friends is a dance teacher and having just moved to Houston from New York, she stressed to me the importance of finding a good gym/studio so as not to erase all the progress I’d made while living up north. Since I was used to a lot more walking living in the city, I’d have to alter my fitness routines in order to offset all the sitting and driving I was doing. Christa bought me a two-week fitness pass to Inner Me and the rest was history. I had a whole new level of love and appreciation for fitness.

Inner Me is a studio based in Houston that offers a variety of fitness classes. These classes range from yoga, hip hop dance, spinning, step aerobics, pole dancing as well as a variety of specialty classes taught by some of Houston’s most renowned instructors. Since becoming a member last month, I’ve tried Azz + Abz + Armz, Stiletto Fit, Hot Pursuit, Hip Hop Dance, Piyolet and my favorite, Pole Dancing. I’m obsessed with this place!

Inner me helped me shed over six pounds of extra weight I’d gain while packing up my life and heading southwest, not to mention an overall change in my lifestyle and fitness habits. This studio holds you accountable and I’ve made several workout buddies that notice my absence and push me to the next level.

If you’re in the Houston area and you’re on the market for a new gym or studio, I’d highly recommend Inner Me. Packages are pretty reasonable and classes are spread throughout the week to accommodate a multitude of schedules. They even offer child care while you exercise. Birthday Behavior Spa Day

For my birthday last month instead of throwing a party or taking a trip somewhere, I decided to treat myself to a day at the spa. Having just moved to Houston from New York City, I wanted some much need me time and a day of R&R was just what the doctor ordered.
After a little research, I settled upon Milk + Honey Spa in Houston. With several locations spread across Texas, I decided to purchase one of their packages which included a 60 minute massage and 60 minute facial. It was one of my favorite birthday’s to date. Here’s why:
Milk + Honey Spa offer a level of service and prestige that is unmatched. I’ve been to several spas, here and abroad, but this place took relaxation to the next level.
I was greeted by a member of the staff as soon as I entered and was immediately shown to the locker room where I was offered a robe, slippers and my drink of choice, citrus water, was prepared for me while I changed. I relaxed in the lounge area while I filled out my paper work and nibbled on light snacks until my massage therapist arrived.
This was one of the best massages of my life. No bull. Kristopher was nothing short of amazing and created a sensory experience that was everything I needed and more. He adapted the massage to meet my personal needs and created an atmosphere that elevated the entire service.
After my massage, I received a facial from Michelle who was a gem. We spoke about my skin care needs and wants and she made recommendations while creating a treatment that would assist in my skincare journey. I ended up getting a peel to target my hyperpigmentation and made plans to return in order to even out my skin tone through continued service.
Once I received both services I relaxed in the lounge area for a bit before taking a steam shower, which only helped to further relax not just my body but my mind as well. This day of self-care was everything I never knew I needed. If  you’re in Houston or the surrounding area, I would definitely recommend Milk +  Honey Spa to anyone looking to book not just a spa day but an entire sensory experience that envelops you into a state of complete and total bliss.

My 2020 Winter Routine

It’s winter here in Houston, and I’ve added a few new products to my skincare arsenal. Read on to hear my thoughts on the newbies that grace my vanity and stay tuned for more in beauty as the year continues.

Biossance cleansing oil has a soft, clean smell and removes makeup and dirt like a dream. It does emulsify slightly but doesn’t leave a residue and rinses cleanly. It’s definitely something that I would repurchase.⠀

Acwell Licorice Cleansing Toner & Licorice Essence Mist are my dynamic, brightening duo. With licorice water being in the top three ingredients, it helps combat hyperpigmentation, while also keeping skin hydrated and supple.⠀

I tried Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water from a recommendation from @shanidarden and I must say I’m impressed. The price point is a dream and it’s effective at removing any final traces of makeup before applying my serum and moisturizer.⠀

Peter Thomas Roth Max Correction Pads is the secret weapon for when my skin is being a brat, ie breaking out. I use this in place of my toner a few days a week and it not only zaps the zit, but it also helps prevent scarring. ⠀

Dermalogica daily microfoliant is my favorite way to gently exfoliate my skin. It helps with dry skin, cell turnover, and texture and makes my skin feel soft and smooth. I use it a few times a week and have definitely noticed a difference. @jackieaina was the plug for this beauty.⠀

What beauty products have added to your regimen this year?
