Trash Talk: February Empties 2020

Here’s a list of products that I used last month and emptied. Check out my thoughts below.

Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream - This is one of my holy grail body creams. It smells like summer, which is my favorite season, and gives you a beautiful, subtle sun-kissed glow. Not to mention this moisturizer helps tighten and smooth the look of skin.

Sephora Collection Watermelon Cleansing Wipes - I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I love these wipes and since I get a discount for being a Sephora employee they are always in my stash.

Degree Clinical Protection Deodorant - I love this deodorant and even though I’ve been on a natural kick for a while, this one definitely stood out to me. I applied it at night and two swipes would last me the whole day.

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Moisture Glow Face Cream - I’ve been threw a few jars of this moisturizer and it’s become a staple in my skincare regimen. It’s an energizing, lightweight moisturizer that’s great for morning or night. Definitely a fan fave.

Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream - I liked this eye cream and would definitely give it another try. I noticed a small difference in my under-eye area it did last for a while.

Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer - This has been one of my favorite concealers to date. And even though I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I can use this concealer lightly under the eye or all over the face for a subtle, fresh glow.

What products did you run through last month?

Melanin Friendly SPF

While be cooped up in the house is a drag, it doesn’t mean that our skin should suffer. One major misconception that I hear a lot as a skincare consultant is that you only have to wear SPF when you go outside. And that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Sunlight finds it way through your windows even while indoors, so it’s important to protect our skin, even while practicing social distancing. Whether you’re active, relaxing or planning for a vacation in the near future, pandemic aside, here is a list of my favorite melanin friendly SPF’s.

Maintaining a Routine on Self-Quarantine

With everyone stuck in the house or having limited exposure to people during the Corona pandemic, most of our daily routines have been thrown out of the window and replaced with little to no variation that is comparable. I too have fallen off the wagon with regards to my usual routine but there’s nothing usual about our current state of affairs, which means we have to get creative. Here’s what I’ve been doing to maintain some since of normalcy amidst the chaos:

1. I cracked open my planner and began planning out my week. Since I’m off work, I no longer have a set schedule, but I decided to create one around errands, projects and my work out routines to give myself some semblance of day-to-day expectations.

2. I scheduled my workouts and runs for the week. Having a plan of when and what I’m doing for fitness was my norm before Corona and there was no reason I couldn’t maintain that. Thanks to my fitness studio offering online classes, I was able to schedule a few of my favorite workouts via livestream.

3. I began to create content. I’m a visual merchandiser and beauty consultant, so while I’m home bound I decided to create more content on my social media platforms. Whether it’s blog posts, Instagram challenges, YouTube videos, takeovers or going live, I wanted to explore the freedom of creation while I have the time and can build a solid routine and following.

4. I started meditation and bible study. Mediation and bible study go hand in hand for me. I now start my mornings with the word of God and then meditate on his promises and what I want my day to look like. It helps me get centered and creates a bubble of peace that keeps me grounded when I feel like I’m being tested or I’m frustrated.

5. I journal. I’m a journalism major and this pandemic has forced me to get back my writing mojo. I’m not saying you have to turn yourself into the next J.K. Rowling but writing can be very therapeutic and reflective during this time of isolation.

6. I find projects to do around the house. If you’re a busy body and have a hard time staying still, find things to do around the house or virtually. You can volunteer for a number of organizations or do things around the house. The possibilities are endless.

7. I allowed myself free time. Since I’m not on such a stringent schedule I can flex and work or chill as much or as little as I want. But for those of you still working from home, make sure to give yourself play time. And while that can look different for everyone, make time for your hobbies or passions. For me, I’ve been reading books, listening to music and have even taken up gardening.

The Corona pandemic is unchartered territory for us all and it’s going to take a lot of creativity to get through these tough times, especially if we’re in solitude solo. Stay strong, stay safe and stay blessed.

Trash Talk: January Empties 2020

We’re back with another empties and though January didn’t bring as many products, the new year definitely left me reeling with these beauties. Let’s get started.

Kopari Coconut Melt - This is my holy grail body moisturizer to keep in the shower. Made of 100% coconut oil, I used this for a few months before it finished and would definitely repurchase. It’s a great way to keep your skin hydrated, and soft without feeling greasy or heavy post shower and it even comes in a travel size which is great for quick trips or a weekend getaway.

Olé Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Crème - This is one of my favorite morning under eye creams. Not only does it help with the wear of my concealer, but with inspiration from make-up artist banana powder, this sunny cream contains special pigments to instantly brighten and color-correct the eye area. And don’t let the sweet, citrus scent fool you, this Banana Bright targets fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles and dryness like nobody’s business.

Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover - By far the best eye makeup remover I’ve ever used. I soak a cotton pad and gently apply to my eye lashes and lids and mascara, liner and even concealer are removed with such ease it’s sickening to think I had used anything else. I will never be without this gem. EVER!

Sephora Collection Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes - These are nice wipes. Nothing to brag about aside from the scent. These wipes get the job done and are a great addition to any gem bag or vanity. Just be sure to keep the lid closed so as not to allow the wipes to dry out and you’ll be good to go for makeup removal or even a luxe cleansing if you’re having a lazy skincare day.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask - This is an bed side staple. After my skincare routine, I brush my teeth and lips and make sure to apply a generous layer of this mask. It keeps my lips nourished while I’m sleeping and prevents chapping. I also apply this mask as a chapstick in the morning before heading off to work when I’m not in the mood for lipstick but need something richer than a lip balm.

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara - This little mini packed a punch. It left my lashes longer, lifted and provided immediate volume with the smudge. You’d never guess this beauty was vegan and cruelty free, but looks can be deceiving and I was pleasantly surprised by this mascara. Definitely a splurge purchase but one I’d be willing to live with.

That rounds up January’s empties. Let me know your thoughts on the products mentioned and stay tuned for February.
