Fall Reads 2020

Reading has and will be one of my favorite past times. I love curling up in a chair or my bedroom nook and enjoying a good page turner. With my travel being limited because of COVID, books are the next best thing when it comes to getting away and getting lost. Especially if it's in the pages of a good novel.

Check out some of the books that have been keeping me enthralled below and share some books that you've been reading these past few months.

Glow Forward with Facetory

I'm a huge fan of K-Beauty and love everything about the culture, especially sheet masks. So when I was given the opportunity to work with a K-Beauty company, I jumped at the chance.

Facetory is a K-Beauty company who's philosophy is to create products that are approachable, affordable, and functional. Their approach to skincare is one of simplicity and they want to help people who are overwhelmed and exhausted of all the beauty products on the market. Sounds like a win-win for me.

Pictured above is this month's spread from Facetory and if you're a k-beauty and sheet mask junkie like myself, click here to order with Facetory and receive a discount at checkout.

Fall Fashion: Sneaker Edition

I’m what some would call a “sneaker head”. Growing up, I was always fascinated with sneaker culture and wanted to have the flyest and dopest footwear on the market.

Fast forward to present-day and this obsession with sneakers has yet to subside. I’m a tomboy, chic fashionista who loves a great pair of kicks. The brighter the better and I rarely, if ever, pay full price. (I can still fit kid sizes and can usually snag my sneakers for a deal.)

Check out some of my favorite sneakers to rock this fall above and stay tuned for fall footwear: boot edition.

Wig Out Wednesday

Since cutting off all my hair, I sometimes get bored with my lack of options. But that’s nothing a wig can’t fix.

I started wearing wigs a few years ago as a protective style during the fall/winter months in New York City. Now that I live in Texas and I’ve kissed winter goodbye, wigs are a quick and easy way to elevate my look or just have fun with some hair.

Let me know if you’ve ever worn a wig or if you’d every consider wearing one as a fun, simple way to switch up your look and keep scrolling to check out my Indigo wig in full effect.

Another month brings another episode of Trash Talk. I decided to combine August & September in order to have a fuller spread for you guys, but I really didn’t blow through too many products the past few months.

Let me know if you guys have tried any of the products above or if they’ve been on your wish list. And stay tuned for next month’s episode of Trash Talk.

Chloe’s Self-Care Series: Masking with Sunday Riley

I’m all about self-care, especially when it includes skincare. I work full-time as a fashion merchandiser, part-time as a skincare consultant, I’m an influencer and I also run my own blog. My schedule is pretty packed.

With that being said, I still make self-care a priority for my mental and physical wellness.

The current climate of the world is filled with such stress and uncertainty. Whether it’s the job market or who’s going to become the president of the United States, we’ve got a lot going on.

I make it my business that no matter what the week or day brings, I always try to take some time to practice some form of self-care. Now while this may look and sound different for everyone, skincare is a huge form of self-care for me: specifically masking.

I mask 2-3 times a week and it’s my me time to decompress and rinse off the day. Not to mention it helps keep my skin glowing year round.

Let me know what self-care looks like for you and how you plan on incorporating more me time into your life.

The Benefits of Working Out Outside

Since living in Houston, I’ve become a huge outdoors person. Besides the beautiful weather, the landscape and scenery here in the south is nothing short of breathtaking.

While I must admit, COVID did play a huge part in me moving my workouts to the outdoors. However, with gyms welcoming members back, I’ve still decided to keep my fitness routine to outside. Here’s why:

Being able to get fresh air without having to wear a mask is like gold. I spend the bulk of my day wearing a mask and working out outside offers me the opportunity to ditch the mask and just breathe.

Plus, I’m not all the way comfortable with attending public places just yet and a gym is one of them. While I don’t judge anyone who’s using a gym to keep in shape, right now it’s just not for me.

And lastly, I don’t want to tack on another bill right now. Attending my fitness studio was amazing, but with the uncertainty of the job market, I’d rather save and prepare for a rainy day. So if I can workout and get the same results or better at home, then I’ll just skip the gym for now.

How’ve you been keeping in shape and active these past few months? I’m dying to here of any new classes or forms of fitness my readers have taken up since quarantine.

Me & Megan: My Jeep Wrangler Story

Before I moved to Texas last year, I knew there were a few things that I would have to acquire. The first was a place to live and the second was a car.

Though I’ve had a driver’s license since I was 18 years old, living in NYC, I rarely had a need for a car. With public transportation being the best way to navigate the city, parking scarce, and car insurance being ridiculously expensive, driving took a back seat.

Moving to the south changed all of the above but I knew when I started driving again, there was only one car for me and that was the Jeep Wrangler. This car is gorgeous with just enough classic curb appeal and ruggedness to fit my tomboy chic aesthetic.

I was able to work with a family friend through phone calls and text in order to get my dream car. Classic Chevy Sugar Land took care of all the rest and Marvin had my car waiting for me my flight touched down in Texas. It was love at first sight.

Check out a few photos of me and my new sidekick and let me now what your dream car is or was.

Fall Fashion: Houston Edition

When I think of fall fashion; light jackets, cardigans, and boots are a few of the fashion items that come to mind. Since my move to Houston, fall fashion means shorts, summer dresses and sandals. Definitely not what this former New Yorker is used to.

The weather here in Texas is still pretty hot and I’m definitely not complaining. I love year round summer and Houston does not disappoint. Check out some pictures of me in “fall fashion” below and be sure to tell me what city you’re repping and how fall has been treating your closet.

How COVID Helped Me Explore My Neighborhood

With the world coming to a complete halt with COVID-19, there were a lot of habits I picked up during quarantine. Not only was I able to get some much needed rest physically and mentally, I was able to slow down and do some exploring in my neighborhood.

With my fitness studio closed, I decided to start back running and walking in order to maintain my physique, and I must admit, it was one of the best decisions I made during quarantine.

I’m known for my numerous, inexpensive travels throughout the year, but for health and safety reasons, I’ve been grounded as have a lot of my readers. So I did the next best thing and I found adventures within my own city and zip code.

I uncovered so many gems and places I wanted to see once things died down a bit here in Houston and now I can’t wait to take this city by the horns and explore.

You don’t always have to travel thousands of miles to get away. Some of the best times and memories can be made right in your own backyard.

My Bedroom Nook

Nothing screams fall and cozy like a nook. I’ve grown quite fond of having a place that’s not my bed or an office while home to snuggle up, read, write or often times just relax.

Nooks can be as simple or extravagant as you’d like them to be; however, the key to any good nook is decor and comfort.

Often times we think the sprucing up or creation of an area within our home will break the bank, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes all you need is a throw, some chic furniture and good lighting.

Do you have a nook in your home and if so, share pictures below.

Even though we’re technically in fall, I’ve still been using my summer skincare routine in Houston. Temperatures don’t usually drop here until December so, I figured, why not share what I’ve been using the past few months that been keeping my skin glowing.

Plus it’s all Sunday Riley. A Houston-based beauty brand.

Keep scrolling for all the deets on my skincare routine and be on the look out for any updates once the weather starts to cool down here in Texas.

How I Rock Head Wraps

I don’t remember when I first starting wearing my signature bow head wrap but it’s become one of my fashion staples. Once fall hits, I’m usually less than excited to style my hair, and I began using head wraps to cover my protective styles.

Now that I’ve shaved my head, I still rock a head wrap from time to time when I want to elevate my ootd or when I’m in dire need of seeing my barber.

Check out a few more photos below of how I style my head wraps and be on the look out for my bow head wrap tutorial.

The Motherland Clothing Company Takeover

A few months ago, my little sister launched her first business: a clothing company. The Motherland Clothing Company is an ode to black culture. As a blogger and influencer, I showed my support not just in dollars but I decided to host a takeover on my feed and feature a few of her pieces in my top nine posts.

Check out pictures of some apparel offered by The Motherland Clothing Company below and be sure to check her entire clothing collection here. This is clothing that starts a conversation. Clothing that matters.  I'm so proud of the business woman she's blossomed into and beyond happy to support her. I know you guys will love the brand just as much as I do.  Love you thickums. ❤️
